Just do a figure 8 around ur thumb and pinky finger wrap tigh then when u need it just pull loose end

Or you can feed it into a zip lock bag with th end hang out.
I wrap mine around the shoulder straps of my bag and it fit lots of rope. It takes no room inside my bag either and adds extra cushion on the straps.
