If you've ever been caught in an earthquake, you'll never forget it. There is something disarming about the earth moving under your feet and not knowing: how intense it will get, how long it will last, and if anything or anything will get hurt from it. In the 90's, California experienced this fear 10-fold when the city of Northridge was slammed with the biggest earthquake of the time. The 20 second quake tipped the richter scale at 6.7. Buildings and freeways collapsed, and the damage reached a 85 mile stretch through the San Fernando Valley.
The earthquake in Japan, with a magnitude of 9, hit without much warning and sent citizens into a state of panic. After the terror of the earthquake, they were then assaulted by a tsunami that left the country in chaos.
We all hope situations like the two mentioned above won't affect us. That they will skip our town and move on to the next. But the reality is, no one know what's coming and we want to ensure we are properly prepared to survive a big earthquake in the event it comes.
Because earthquakes strike without warning, there is a sense of urgency to prepare before disaster strikes. Head over to page 2 so you can start preparing yourself for survival.
