NASA Gets Ready for an Asteroid Impact: ‘It’s going to happen’

asteroid-impact

NASA recently opened up about their preparations for a future asteroid impact. The government agency initiated an emergency plan back in October 2016 where they practiced evacuating people in one Southern California town.

Their plan included a simulation experience featuring a strong chance of an asteroid hit. In an effort to better prepare for the looming disaster, they worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

NASA predicts the planet will be hit by an asteroid sometime in the future; as for when and where it will happen, nobody can accurately guess.

In the meantime, we should start taking our own initiatives to prepare for this disaster that could happen in our lifetime.  Unfortunately, asteroids are not something we can predict in a timely manner. If an asteroid was to hit, we would only 2 to 3 days at most to prepare.

We can and should keep a potential asteroid hit in the back of our minds when planning for a potential disaster. It's a good idea to plan ahead with electricity alternatives and stockpiling non-perishables.

It's also a good idea to arrange an emergency plan for your entire family so everyone can stay in touch even if everyone is separated.

Let's take another look at our previous report from NASA after the break.

A mini van? Doubtful. Now one as big as a full sized van would destroy the earth.

They estimate that it would have to be around a kilometer wide or larger for another extinction event.

Ever hear of the tunguska meteor? It wasn’t the even size of a minivan and it was as powerful as a nuke. Do some friggin research people.

If it hits Hollywood, New York City, or Washington D.C. then the asteroid will be a blessing.

There are about 5 other asteroids that have a better chance that hitting there Earth than this one.

There are probably a million asteroids we don’t know about headed towards us.

When they announce the impact is certain I’ll open my twenty year of bottle of Chivas Regal and toast the end if days. Cheers!

River Cozo not even the most powerful nuke is enough to set off volcanoes, tsunamis, and or earthquakes! so you do some freaking research..

This article is advocating having a plan “just in case.” Since the last asteroid that hit earth wiped out 75% of all species on the planet, I’m thinking having a few extra cans of soup and some bottled water really isn’t going to cut it.

River Cozo a large nuke it’s not enough to set off volcanoes, tsunami, and or quake! Such as the Tsar Bomba… Now you may want to do some freaking research

It’s kind of scary if you think about what kinds of new PC merit badges they might have to start earning in order to advance.

How many times has the apocalypse been expected just in the last 20 years? How many times has it happened?

More stupid scare tactics from this site? I thought this was about prepping, not making stupid crap up just like the liberals.

Seems like all the good pages get desperate and start posting clickbait just before they go under. Even been sending ads via messenger when you comment on their post. Sad.

Can we agree that this is probably a better apocalypse than the current options :p

What’s going on in Antarctica could be big. Upwards of a1000 engineers have been requested there by aerospace giant Northrop Grumman in the last month. John Kerry was down there on election day. The Pope, and the head of the Russian church made a visit recently as well as Buzz Aldrin. Aldrin tweeted, “This is pure evil” just before he was evacuated for “medical reasons”. Speculation is they found something in the ice. Must be something big if they need a 1000 aerospace engineers.
