In the modern days of GPS, it's sad to say that many people are no longer learning how to use what many consider to be a more archaic form of navigating.

Because of this, knowledge of the good old fashioned map and compass is quickly falling by the wayside.

Many people prefer the ease of use of a GPS, what with its ability to simply enter a destination and automatically guide you there with the easiest route available.

However, in a situation where you either lack a satellite signal or your GPS batteries run dry, or a worst case scenario in which an EMP has rendered satellites and electronics useless, the use of the “archaic” map and compass will absolutely be your best bet.
