Very lucky, but pawn shop and gun shows are not the same as the use to be. Really hard to find reasonable prices.

  2. Joel Sebbag said:

The lack of cheap Mosins is because of the US banning imports from Eastern Europe. A policy likely to change under the current administration.

Very lucky. I think I saw a hi point sitting with a 250 price tag on it used…. a freakin door stop for 250…

  4. Brett Vanderhoof said:

Yes they are over $200 around here. It’s been a long time since they were under $100

It is an excellent rifle. But, my personal experience is, foreign guns are hard to find ammo for outside cities and gunshows. In 70 years I never found Russian or British ammo in Wellington Utah, Duchesne, Utah, Prescott, Arizona, or anywhere in rural Virginia. I’ve, also, never failed to find 30-30 or 30-06 ammo anyplace…Ever gas stations in Wellington, Utah. Guess what I carry? And I’ve owned Moisan Nagants, Brit 303s, 4 kinds of Mausers and more then a hundred fire arms!

3 years ago I bought mine for $125. They haven’t went down in price but up. I haven’t seen them for$100 in years.

Yeah, $150 4-5 years ago. This article calling it “the best rifle for $100” is a little off time-wise.

Being packed in cosmoline does not mean it wasn’t used , or wasnt used during war. The government takes all the working rifles, has them cleaned and gone over to assess damage, repairs or disposes of them accordingly, packs them full of cosmoline and stores them away to be used in the next war.

After several decades, the rifles are no longer “up to date” and are sold off to recoup expenses incurred by the government as they aquire/develop new firearms.

If your rifle is in very nice shape it may be new, never issued. If that’s the case, good for you !

I have two, a sniper model and a much shorter infantry model. Ammo is plentiful and at $150-180 per 550 Rd tin, you can’t beat that

Found A Mosin all scratched to hell and back at a yard sale. Talked em down to $40.
After stripping, priming and glossing, babe looks new. Accurate as all get out. Have 5 total. Love Mosin. But my Truelove is my VEPR chambered in 7.62x54r.

I have 4 different models I use for hunting shooting and defense. Love everyone and they have never let me down.

SKS is in that group, also, and may be less expensive (but no longer close to $100) As confidence in our president continues to grow, I believe ALL new and used weapons will come down in price, especially third world rifles like the Mosin and SKS.

  12. Kevin Nichols said:

I agree, this caliber can be bought in bulk but when shtf this caliber will only be what you have not what is laying around.

I got mine 5 years ago, blame Obama for the embargo and subsequent price raise

I paid like $98 for mine I up graded it. Still super accurate. Never a a problem with it.

Old tried an true weapon , may be 100 years old but works like new an will take down anything in North America , man or beast , I own two , both with scopes an zeroed in at over 500 yards , 5 shots all within 7 inches of each other .

It’s a decent rifle but it’s not going to shoot like a more expensive gun I don’t mind them for what they are but I know a lot of guys that call them the garbage rod I wouldn’t go that far but they’re a bit overrated again a great gun for the price but there are more accurate rifles out there if you’re willing to pay

I have one,it’s almost in mint condition. Got the sniper verision, about a foot longer than the regular one, it also, came with a sling, cleaning kit, and a 12″ pig sticker. Mine cost about $160. But it was in excellent condition. There were 10 of them in a crate,we 4 carried in. I asked for the crate, but didn’t get, thought it my make a good foot locker,if you could get the cosoline smell out of it. Lol. I have yet to shoot it,stands about 5 and half ft tall with pig sticker. Polishes up really nice also, with that stainsteel bolt. All matching #’s also. The little kids like to look at it,guess because it’s so long. Got a 8mm Greman Mouser also. Good deer rifle, alittle heavy, but she will drop em.

This article was either republished or written from hand-me-down information from someone a while ago. Decent enough rifle, but the info is outdated.

  19. Patrick Stralko said:

Hard to find now. You write this 5 years ago? They are like 175 now and hard to find.

  20. Patrick Stralko said:

Like 175 now and harder to find. This should have been an article 5 years ago…

I love my Mosins but you can not get them for $100 anymore. They were running close to $250 the last time I checked. The surplus ammo is damn hard to find right now also. You can buy ammo from a US supplier but it is about the same cost as a .308 round. Anyway, it is still a pretty cheap rifle but the prices this article quotes are about 5 years old.

  22. Trent Long said:

As mentioned in the comments in the article, they’re no where near $100 any more.

Also, the carbine versions mentioned tend to be nearly completely worn out, and need a rebuild.

  23. Wes Mueller said:

Not any more. Went looking for a M38 today. No luck. Not fast enough.

  24. Mike Miller said:

I wish that the surplus ammo would become available in the States again.

  25. Dewey Baines said:

Rem Sks for $69. Now 400 when you find them. Haven’t seen a mossy for any price in about 5 yr
