Survival in the most dire of circumstances is only possible if a combination of factors are true.
For one, the person or people involved have to be very innovative, no matter how prepared they are.
Two, they have to be opportunistic and seize what is available to them to use in the most opportune method possible.
Three, they have to have a lot go right – whether it is because they make wise choices or it is just happenstance – some would call this luck.
Four, they have to be resilient.
In almost every survival story, be it surviving a natural disaster or fending off sharks after a shipwreck, these four factors are the foundation for survival and without them, the person or people involved see their chances for survival plummet.
On the following page, there are nine stories of survival and in each one, these four factors were present, allowing for a happy outcome.
