
The frontiersmen and women who traveled to the west in the 1800's were no doubt brave. They utilized their skills to make it through a difficult time during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These brave men and women did all they could do to survive.
Most cowboys owned very little and got their belongings from a store that they had to travel miles to get to. They also made their own supplies and when they really needed something it wasn't possible to walk to a nearby store. They had to wait weeks or months to buy something or learn how to make it or do without.
It's impossible not to look up to these brave men and women who traveled out west to start a new life. For them, it was a difficult time when they were challenged both mentally and physically. Traveling long distances they also had to care for their families and deal with illness and famine.
Cowboys were survivalists in every sense of the world and today we can still learn a lot from them.
