7 Things to Scavenge From Cars When All Hell Breaks Loose

abandoned-wrecked-car

After a SHTF situation, one reality is that there will be a lot of abandoned vehicles due to the severity of the aftermath.

Abandoned vehicles can provide a lot of survival materials, tools, and applies that you can utilize post-collapse. However, before taking advantage of that car that's no longer in use, it's vital to make sure it's actually abandoned. You can't start taking things from the car unless you've established that it's indeed left behind by its previous owners.

Once you have established that the car is abandoned there is an unlimited amount of supplies you can re-purpose for survival uses.

Some of these items include hoses, mirrors, and the list go on and on. Use these supplies to your advantage and add them to your SHTF stash because at one time or another these items will be useful to you.

To learn about an incredible list of supplies and parts you can salvage from an abandoned vehicle, visit the next page.

Don’t need to poke no hole in the tank.

    1. Undo the clamp that the full tube connects to the tank.

    2. There will be something flat duck as a coin to undo clamp.

    3. Go to the engine and get a vacuum line or the hose to the window washer tank.

    4. Put hose into the tank and get gas if a newer vehicle.

It’s that easy. Yes you’ll have to work a little for it but you’ll get it.

Dont forget, that, that vehicle is still someone’s property, and they may come back with a shotgun and take exception to your scavenging.

Most tanks are plastic. Daniel Biehl is correct. You could even cut the hose to the tank and siphon that way. A siphon pump comes in handy.

Jump fuel pump relay, cut fuel supply in engine bay, sit back and let the pump do all the work for you

Click bait… list is stuff in the trunk, stuff in the glove box, mirrors, battery, wiring, gasoline and i gave up…

You have to drop the tank in most vehicles to get to the fuel line, and using the pump for emptying the tank is a good idea, if the rigs only been sitting a short time. But if its been sitting for a few months or someone has already taken the battery your fastest way to get your gas is just punching the tank. Unless you have tools and for some reason want to drop the tank that’s going to weigh a lot full of fuel. Or have the tools it takes to separate modern cars fuel lines and you either have a battery you carry around with you orby some miracle the cars battery is still there and has a charge.

And Eric CrawsonEric take my word on this, you cannot get a hose into a modern vehicles filler neck bigger than a drinking straw. Trust me I’ve tried. Go try to get a garden hose into your own cars gas tank if you can I’ll send you a hundred dollars. Unless your cars old that is.

It gets very humid in a car with the windows rolled down.

Are these people serious? Battery, Altenator, water pump, hoses, electrical harneses/fuse relay box, Fuel tank and bulbs would be on my list.

Most if not all fuel tanks are now plastic. And if still scared then use something copper to punch the hole. Copper doesn’t spark.

Kraig Cochran you don’t have too drop no tank in any vehicle what so ever.

    1. Disconnect the fill hose to tank

    2. Go to the engine and get a vacuum hose or window washer hose

    3. Drain gas.

    Or

    1. Find the fuel filter and disconnect

    2. Siphon gas that way through the pump

Cause it’ll work and the fuel filter is on the outside of the tank anyway before going to the engine

Old mixtapes. You can use them to stay warm and cook your food. Maybe tape a mixtape to the end of a stick to scare off predators.

We remove gas from rental cars for budget by just running a tube down the filler neck. Air brake hose is what we actually use and then pump it out. Mazda is the only car we can’t use that method for. There is a trick to getting past he anti siphon devices but it’s easy on most makes.

This article is completely useless. The first “thing that is the most valuable to salvage” is ……”whatever is in the trunk” ….yup

They forgot the the alternator you can make a generator with one

I bought a siphon pump for like 3 bucks.
Light weight and easy to carry comes with a built in pump.
And if that fails like you guys say just poke a hole and drain it.

    Buy a Water buffalo.
    Emps don’t disable water buffalos.
    Water buffalos don’t need gas.
    Water buffalo’s keep you warm.
Water buffalos can pull your car…

You could build a smoker or dehydration systems from saplings pretty easy.
