Martial law. It's one phrase that terrifies all citizens, regardless of their political leanings. With martial law comes complete restrictions of rights and privileges, a weakened economy, and lessened individual power to enact change via voting or even protesting.

Of course, one could argue that we are under martial law right now, but compared to what our situation could be, any form of martial law that exists right now is child's play.

For true martial law, one or all of 5 things must occur, otherwise, the people see the enacting of martial law as an arbitrary crackdown and will fight back. For martial law to be truly effective, the people must think that the government is acting in the interest of the people.

One look at history, and you will know this is an absolute fallacy; martial law exists only for the benefit of those in power, and regardless of where you stand on the political playing field, you know that's not the voters.

    We had martial law after hurricane Katrina. About 10 days after the storm had passed and the flood waters receded we had national guard units roll into town. They went door to door enforcing the mandatory evacuation and confiscating firearms. A few people got their weapons back , but many never did , especially if they were new or hard to find models . Keep in mind that a lot of this happened after the storm was long gone and the people who were effected were not in danger .
    If martial law does occur hopefully it will only be in large cities where some sort of event has caused chaos. It takes a lot of troops to enforce martial law . In sparsely populated areas it would be hard to enforce . Going door to door may be easy in a place like NOLA , but try that in the mountains of Appalachia. It becomes a logistical nightmare. One would also hope that local police would not enforce such unconstitutional orders as widespread firearm confiscation. If troops show up wearing foreign uniforms and the blue hats of the UN , then all bets are off. We must hope that the next president, whoever wins , will try to heal the wounds of this country. There exists more animosity between different races and social classes than we have had in many years . Long live our republic !

    Term limits are a must… Flush the whole thing.. They do not know “The people” .. They have never had to worry about what bill to float to make sure your kids eat.. Or medical insurance.. Or the single mom who has to miss work and risk losing her job to care for a family member or the guy who just worked 70hrs I a week missing his family and still not bringing home enough money to live The American dream… Enough is enough.. If it comes to the wire I’ll be Frontline riki damn tik… They can pull my body from under a pile of brass if they want… But damn man.. It has to change.
