Just about everyone concerned with survival in the event of a manmade or natural disaster has a lot of advice about what you should do.

What is often lacking, though, is advice on what not to do.

This is a shame because often well-meaning folks commit basic mistakes that leave themselves vulnerable, unsafe and in some cases, doomed.

Sometimes the mistakes they make are complex – like heading off a trail into the wilderness on an assumption civilization is near, but in reality, is days of hiking away.

More often, though, mistakes are simple – not securing a food cache or underestimating how much water they will need.

Each, though, in the extreme, can be no less deadly.
