If you want to know how much propane is in your tank and you don't have a scale on your grill, here is an easy test. We tried it and it works!
To sum up, just get about a quart of hot water from the tap and run it down one side of your tank. Run your hand down the tank to check the propane level. The propane will absorb the heat and you will feel the level of the propane in the tank!
When the grid goes down we will all need to learn little tricks like this. Propane may eventually be our best friend so learn how to use it wisely and, while doing it, make sure you have plenty of propane in reserve!

When the grid goes down….lol but they say get the hot water from the tap. :p interesting.
Place tank on scale. Subtract t.w. from total weight.
Shoot it.
How the heck is propane going to be “our best friend”, if it can’t be pumped or trucked to where you live, because – you know – the grid is down..?
Let me guess, submerge in water?
Or just weigh the tank….
I just shake it.
