(VIDEO) The Dakota Fire Hole: Why it’s the MOST Effective Fire When Bugging Out

Fire hole

Dakota Fire Holes are renowned for their ease of use, ability to reach incredible temperatures with limited fuel, and excellent ability to keep the flames concealed in the event you don't want to be seen.

Essentially the original Rocket Stove, this fire method is one that every prepper needs to add to their list of survival skills.

Thanks to the design, this fire also doesn't produce very much smoke because of the excellent ventilation it receives from the second hole. Not only will cooking be faster on this fire, but it will also limit the smoke in your face as you wait for your water to boil.

When you're done, just fill in the holes and be on your way. This is a great method to use when you're on the move in a bug out scenario.

We use these occasionally. Directs heat better. Uses less wood. Less visible. List goes on.

For it to work, it really depends on wind direction vs ventilation hole…and they still give off smoke either way…it’s not as discreet as you might think…

    Just be careful, in Alaska.
You don’t start a tundra fire. Will burn underground for years.
