The Ultimate Survival Food – And it Has Been With Us for Centuries!

During the American Civil War, hardtack was cheap, durable and an easily made food substance that provided carbohydrates and nutrients for the soldiers of both the Union and the Confederacy.

Before them, it was a staple for sailors, dating back centuries. There is even one example of hardtack surviving over 150 years – and you could eat it for lunch if you needed to do so!

It is easy to make, inexpensive, does not take up much room and will last if stored properly for decades at least!

In a survival situation, it is an emergency food source that anyone can make as long as you have the basic ingredients and a cooking source to seep slowly out all the moisture, leaving a very dense wafer that can be brought “back to life” by immersing it in liquid.
