Many survivalists think they can handle anything that comes their way when doomsday arrives, but the truth is there is a lot more to surviving that stockpiling the best food, making sure you have enough water and supplies and having the perfect survival bag.
It's also vital you have a plan in place so that you can travel from point A to point B when SHTF.
Even if you don't have a bug out location all setup, it's still a good idea to have a rugged vehicle you can count on during a SHTF moment. If you think about it, when the grocery stores have been wiped clean, and the police are no longer at their stations, you're the one who will need to stop criminals from discovering where you're hiding out.
Keep in mind that a rugged SHTF vehicle should be designed for fuel efficiency and keeping you safe, not just reliability.
Taking that into account, that means that today's cars just won't cut the mustard when it comes having the vital transportation you need to stay alive.
To stay alive when SHTF, after the break check out some reliable bug out vehicles that'll keep you safe when it's time to get out of dodge!

74 and older i think. Or diesel with mech injector pump.
6.2 Detroit diesel. That was one issue, under powered. I found there were a few parts here and there that were not civi spec. Plus most have not been taken care of and run down. The 1008’s are known to have a “death wobble” when coming to a stop. My first experience with the wobble scared the living crap out of me
Catherine Furnace Fontenot
So I was just thinking about this earlier. Had to put a thermostat and a new radiator hose on my car today. Can you tell me what year I should try to get. I know computers with emp won’t fill the bill. Funny I was thinking of that not less than an hour or two ago. I have a 97 acura integra and will be wanting something else. Give me options.
There will be more gas and diesel than you could wish for… If you know how to get it…
Not asking you to prove anything to me. Good luck
Not starting argument mr Nichol Ferguson just disagreeing with you on the benifits of a dog team versus your bike.
73 jeep, still has point and nothing electronic!
Buy a new truck and you’ll have a factory warranty if anything happens to it like a EMP
I’m allready at where I’m going. Don’t have to leave.
You city fellas can run to your rainbow to get away where ever that may be. But some of us are allready there.
There are 4 of us in my Houshold

Best bug out vehicle – 1949 Dodge Powerwagon
I miss my CJ5 and my S10 P/U both standards.
Called a SR5 in the states
Any standard shift pre 70 vehicle. Easy to start as ling as comdensor. Is good
Yeah but there was a difference. I was seeing 4 door hi lux in South America in 86 and never saw them in the states for 15 years after at least.
Did you forget the 1984 S-10 pickup with 4 cyl diesel?
would like to have an old; yet updated, International Scout or Travelall
Any diesel without a computer.
Horse and buggy! Or good pair of boots!
after 20 years the plastic seal on the radiator busted so my mechanic replaced the radiator shes as good as new

I’ve seen that article before. I had been thinking of buying all new electronics for my newer truck. Parts guy says it would be about 150, less the entire harness. Times are getting a little hard here with the Army telling me BOHICA this past weekend.
im looking for one with the ultimate edition package myself!
That Toyota 22R engine is probably one of the best ever built
How about the “surf” they made all kinds of cool Toyotas that we never get!
Maybe so, but you also want to pick one that has parts readily available.
My dad just bought this ’65, 60,000 miles and been on a farm since new. Box dumps, or scissors straight up 15′.
Not very fast is it? Lol. We love ours and use it whenever I need to get stuff. Mine has a twin RAM dump and a gear driven 10 ton winch for a boom hoist
Not very fast, but it runs like a sewing machine! Lol
It looks like the body on yours is in better shape than mine mine is a slow steady work in process of restoration since it also is being used regularly
There were many different engines that were available in these years my other Chevy Viking has a 409 V8 in it however the one above has a big stovebolt 6
It’s not the best I’ve ever seen but not real bad. Had to work on the floors, but pretty solid overall. Mechanically great truck, well worth the $2,000 he paid for it.
This one has a 327. When he bought it I thought for sure it would have the 292.
Mine is the 292 it’s only 165 horsepower however with the low gears I’ve never had any problem hauling anything I connected to it including towing a broken down semi truck the guy I bought it from was the son of the original purchaser who used it in their construction company in Estes Park Colorado for over 40 years his dad finally passed away and then the man I bought it from work it until he retired and he and his wife opened a small ceramic shop in business and didn’t need it anymore and they gave it to me for really really good price just like what you guys got yours I had contemplated for quite a while putting a V8 engine in it and I still may do so if the six-cylinder ever decides to start breaking down it’s never had any work done in close to half a million miles
Michael Nordahl… isn’t that your new one? Lol…
Wow! Yeah same story bought from original owners son, only time it left the farm was to go to the grain elevator.
This is my other Viking hits a semi tractor it has the 409 V8 that Chevy made for a few years in the early sixties I don’t know why they quit making it this motor is in the enormous Power House
78 Suburban. King of the apocolypse.
Good idea.

1 deer rifle round thru radiator into engine block it will stop
This will run roadblocks better than the 4 cylinder toad on picture above
No fuel or stabaluzer for what u have u stuck
How about an honorable mention of an 68 dodge pick up with a slant 6 and manual 3 speed
