(Video) How to Make What Some Would Argue is the Best Survival Food Out There

pemmican making

Survival food comes in many shapes, tastes, and styles. Today, when most people think of survival food, they think primarily of freeze dried or dehydrated bags of pre-prepared meals sold in stores as camping food or ordered online in bulk for the apocalypse.

You may have buckets of grain and rice on shelves in your basement or rows and rows of canned and jarred foods ready to go for the tough times.

But a couple of hundred years ago, people took a very different approach to survival food. All food was survival food, and getting your edibles to last as long as possible was the most important thing in the world you could do.

Learning from the Native Americans, many pilgrims and Colonials turned to pemmican, a wonderfully energy-rich food that could last months when prepared properly.

Not many people still practice the traditional method of making the ultimate “energy bar,” but if you want to be ready for when SHTF, you should definitely take the time to learn it.

Check out this great project on the video on the next page.
