We never realized the cast iron skillet had become the victim of hate speech. As a child, we recall our mother bringing out her own. She swore by it and treated it with loving hands.

And perhaps that was the difference. She knew what she was doing with the skillet, making it practically an extension of her own hand!

Charlotte Druckman, author of Stir, Sizzle, Bake: Recipes for Your Cast-Iron Skillet, explains that as long as you keep your pan well-seasoned and rust free a cast iron skillet is a godsend! Obviously, Mom knew what she was doing.

But really, what can you do with these pans? Everything you do with an ordinary pan – and more! We can get into that later but for here and now we want to talk to the average homesteader about the ten commandments to cooking with a cast iron skillet.

After the break go to the next page and learn how you can take care of your skillet and make some delicious breakfast, lunches, dinners and desserts with your pride and joy!
