When we were a child, there was a fascinating movie released – in the early 1970s – starring Robert Redford. The movie was Jeremiah Johnson and the man was a survivalist of sorts who sought revenge against men who did him wrong. Besides beautiful scenery and depicting the world of over one hundred years ago, it centered on how the man lived his life in the wilderness. It was not easy yet he persevered.

However, the Jeremiah Johnson of this article is a retired Green Beret of the United States Army Special Forces (Airborne). A graduate of the U.S. Army’s SERE school (Survival Evasion Resistance Escape), and he is here to give us some clever and highly usable tips; a guide to home defense.

We sight the two Mr. Johnsons because both are survivalists and their determination mirrors our own in the world of persistence and prepping.
