William Tripp That depends ENTIRELY on what region the store is run by, and the discretion of the manager at that particular store.

For instance, Goodwill of West Michigan runs15 stores. Two of those are overpriced regularly, the other 13 are reasonable to downright cheap(I bought a Griswold cast iron piece at one of the reasonable stores yesterday for $5 bucks).

Now, look at Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids. Half their merchandise is NEW products they bought and marked up. All donations go through a warehouse, where they’re divided into three categories: sell online, sell in stores, and “hog trough”(that’s my term for it. I stopped there once, and it’s basically huge bins of JUNK wheeled out into the public area, where they are descended upon by packs of people like hogs fighting over the slop they’re fed. I spent an hour there, and found nothing in the thirty odd bins they had out. Everything in their retail outlets was overpriced, and their internet auctions are downright insulting.

Well tell me were else u can get a towel for a dollar. Tell me were u can get a kids out fit for 1.99 or a bra for 1.99 hell a skirt for 3.49 and so on. Where can u get a 1500 dollar speaker system for 25 bucks? Or a pair of coach shoes for 10 bucks brand new nike shoes 8 bucks. Tell me where cause id love to know. And for the troll that talks about my spelling how dare u try to make people feel like they are stupid at goodwill we call people consumers and help our consumers not put them down to make our self feel good like u just tried to do about me. Throwing harsh words around and putting people down applause for u ML$#%&!@*i make well over ten a hour and hiring right now a cashier start out at 9 a hour so when did 9 a hour become min wage??

Bragging about making $10 an hour? Feel better now after blowing your gasket, Cassandra Wesolowski? Discussing an issue doesn’t make one a troll. I am not putting people down who shop at Goodwill, nor the employees. I shop there myself. Minimum wage in my state is $7.25, and that’s what the basic GW workers are paid here, while the CEO makes millions. If you took the time to read my comments, it was the irony of a CEO who pays zero for the merchandise, and pays his workforce a less at hand living wage. Sorry honey, if you want to defend this, go right ahead. But tell me that you can live on $10 and hour without another source of income.

Rob Clark, there’s no problem with a business owner making boatloads of money, but when he does it on the backs of low paid employees, and everything he sells he paid nothing for, then he’s really shrewd, or he’s a$#%&!@* So stfu yourself.

Not much of this stuff comes up in my area. People here seem to know the value of the unused stuff they have. The only things you really find in consignment shops here is clothing, children’s toys, and furniture – lots of dressers for some reason.

Tammy Russell yeah, it’s a bit exaggerated … but the REAL thing about goodwill is they pay some of their employees PENNIES an hour. and this is TRUE … give me a minute to find it.

  13. Tammy Russell said:

I didn’t know about that, I know that the people that worked in my mom store got paid more then that. But that was a different state they also had better labor laws then PA.

  14. Jodi Harrington said:

My goodwill is actually expensive. They had a used storage tote they got for free and wanted to charge 5.00 for it. The exact same tote at Walmart was $4.00 new.
